The gospel reading for this week is one that should shock us, it certainly did in the time after Jesus' death and resurrection, even as it did for the religious leaders surrounding Jesus. What was it? "Eat my flesh and drink my blood." This teaching led to charges of cannibalism for Jesus' followers, but that's not what Jesus literally meant. Jesus provides more than enough bread and fish for a large crowd, then heads to the other side of the water. The next day, the crowd found Jesus, but were they just asking for more bread and fish? Jesus challenges them to look for more, the Bread of Life. The crowd asks for a sign. Huh? Didn't Jesus give you a pretty big one the day before? Wait, do WE ask for signs, too?
